Grocery stores, convenience stores, and checkout lanes are teeming with freshening mints, mouthwashes and many other products that promise to help overcome bad breath. Research has shown that, at best, these products can prevent bad breath only provisionally.
The most effective method to freshen your breath is to follow proper dental hygiene. Better dental hygiene solves most people’s breath problems.
If the following tips do not help, consult your dentist for a physical examination for further analysis.
- Watch what you eat. Before important meetings, avoid eating food containing onions, garlic and other foodstuff that contains pungent, volatile oils. Avoid alcohol and tobacco products
- Moisten your mouth. That’s the function of saliva. When your mouth dries up, the dead cells that build up decompose and result in bad breath. Consume plenty of water regularly. Chewing gum or sucking on candy can help prevent a dry mouth.
- Brush your teeth after every meal. The breakdown of food particles in and around your teeth can cause a foul odor. Floss often.
